A hundred bucks is right where the free-money apps stop being the answer. You need a sale, a shift, or both.
So here’s every way that can realistically get you there, what each one pays, and how long it takes from the moment you start. Some of it is same day. Some of it isn’t, and nobody else seems to mention that part.
How long each way takes to hit $100
| Way | Time to $100 | When you can spend it | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sell one thing | An hour to a few days | Right away, if the buyer pays cash at pickup | You need something worth $100 |
| DoorDash | One evening, if you’re already a Dasher | Weekly, or Fast Pay once a day for $1.99 | Sign-up and a background check come first |
| Instawork shifts | About 5 hours at its $20+ US average | Instant after eligible shifts | Shifts depend on what’s open near you |
| Freecash + Testerup | Gets you $20, not $100 | Freecash mostly instant once verified, Testerup usually within 24 hours | ID and face checks before the first payout |
1. Sell one thing worth $100
Honestly, this is the fastest $100 there is. Think bigger than a phone case: a bike you haven’t ridden since the spring, an old tablet, a pair of sneakers you wore twice, a stroller the kids outgrew.
Post it on Facebook Marketplace or a local buy-and-sell group, price it a little under the similar listings, and meet in a public spot. Cash or a payment app at pickup means the money’s yours on the spot.
Shipping it somewhere is slower and costs you a cut. Mercari, for example, keeps 10% of the sale plus whatever shipping the buyer paid, and its free direct deposit typically takes up to 5 business days.
How long? Same day if it’s something people are actively looking for. A few days if it isn’t, or if you priced it like it’s new.
Work one shift
No sale in sight? Then it’s hours. Two apps can get you to $100 in one go, as long as you’re approved before you need the money.
2.DoorDash
Best for: people already approved to Dash
- What it is
- DoorDash’s delivery gig. You deliver restaurant, grocery, convenience and pet store orders as an independent contractor.
- What you do
- Accept offers in the Dasher app, pick up, drop off. Car, scooter, motorcycle, or a bike in some cities.
- How much it pays
- Base pay runs $2 to $10+ per offer, plus promos like Peak Pay and 100% of your tips. The amount on the offer screen is the minimum you’re guaranteed. Pay lands weekly, usually by Wednesday night, or use Fast Pay once a day for $1.99. The DoorDash Crimson debit card gets free instant deposits.
- The catch
- DoorDash doesn’t publish an average, so how many orders make $100 depends on your city and your tips. Anybody quoting you an hourly number for Dashing is guessing. New Dashers need a background check first, and you need to be 18 or older (19 or 21 in some states).
Worth it? Yes if you’re already approved. A busy evening of orders is your best shot at $100 in one go. Not approved yet? Sign up today for next week.
Already on Uber Eats instead? Its Instant Pay cashes out up to 6 times a day for $1.25 each, which beats Fast Pay if you want the money tonight. Here’s how DoorDash and Uber Eats compare for drivers.
3.Instawork
Best for: an hourly shift with no car needed
- What it is
- A shift app. Businesses post shifts, you pick them up and work them as a “Pro.”
- What you do
- Grab a shift near you in the app, show up, work it. What’s posted depends on your city.
- How much it pays
- Instawork says Pros can earn up to $30 an hour, and its average across all US markets and job types is over $20 an hour. At that average, $100 is about 5 hours of work. Pay is instant after eligible shifts, and there’s no cost to get started.
- The catch
- “Up to $30” is a ceiling and the $20 is an average, so your shift could pay less. You also get vetted first (Instawork uses up to eight checks, including a background check and a phone screen), so it’s rarely a same-day start.
Worth it? Yes if you don’t have a car and you’d rather work one solid shift than chase orders. It’s the closest thing here to a normal hourly paycheck.
Want more hourly gigs like this one? There’s a longer list of jobs that pay $20 an hour with little or no experience.
The last $20: two app bonuses
These won’t carry you to $100. They’re for topping off. Start both tonight while you wait on a buyer or a shift, and they cover a fifth of the goal.
4.Freecash
Best for: the fastest cash-out of any app here
- What it is
- A rewards site and app that pays you for games, app trials, surveys and other offers.
- What you do
- Finish one offer to unlock the welcome bonus, then keep going on whatever pays best for your time.
- How much it pays
- There’s a $10 welcome bonus after your first offer. Your first withdrawal needs ID verification (a selfie plus ID) and a $5 to $20 minimum depending on your region. After that, PayPal starts at $5 and most PayPal, crypto and gift card withdrawals are instant.
- The catch
- The ID check sits in front of your first payout, so do it right away instead of when you’re trying to cash out. You need to be 16 or older.
Worth it? Yes. Once you’re verified, it’s the quickest way to turn app earnings into cash you can spend.
5.Testerup
Best for: a second $10 on the side
- What it is
- An app that pays you to test mobile games and take surveys.
- What you do
- Pick a game goal or a survey. Each offer shows its reward before you start, so you know exactly what you’re working toward.
- How much it pays
- There’s a $10 welcome bonus. Payouts go to PayPal, Venmo (US), a Visa virtual card or an Amazon gift card, usually within 24 hours and up to 3 business days. PayPal and Venmo payouts lose 5%. The two cards don’t.
- The catch
- It’s not same-day money, there’s a face check before your first payout, and you need to be 18.
Worth it? Yes if a day’s wait is fine. With Freecash, that’s $20 of your $100 from two sign-ups.
Can’t wait? Borrow from your next paycheck
If payday is close and the $100 bill isn’t waiting, Current‘s Paycheck Advance is worth a look. It’s not making money. It’s getting your own pay early.
Eligible users can get up to $1,000 before payday, and there’s no credit check. To qualify you need at least one eligible payroll deposit of $200 or more a month landing in Current. It’s free if you can wait up to 3 days, or you pay an Instant Access Fee (the app shows you the amount first) to get it faster. The advance comes back out of your next payroll deposit automatically.
Just know what it is: a bridge, not income. The full breakdown is on the $500 page.
Skip these if you need $100 this week
Surveys and receipt apps are fine for pocket change. For $100 this week, they’re a waste of your afternoon.
Nielsen’s panel pays up to $50 a year in points for keeping its app on your phone. Swagbucks’ $10 bonus needs a $25 purchase through its shop first. InboxDollars won’t let you cash out until you hit $15, and payment can take up to 10 business days. None of that is a scam. It’s just slow.
Bottom line: sell one thing, take a shift if you can, and let the two app bonuses fill the gap.
Quick questions
Can I make $100 in one day?
Yes, two ways: sell something worth $100 locally, or work a delivery shift or an Instawork shift if you’re already approved. Starting from zero, plan on a few days, since every gig app runs a background check first.
Is there an app that gives you $100 instantly?
No. No legit app hands out $100 for signing up. Freecash and Testerup each have a $10 welcome bonus. Current’s Paycheck Advance can front you money, but you need a qualifying payroll deposit, and it comes out of your next paycheck.
What’s the fastest way to make $100 online?
Selling something you already own, then shipping it. Pure online apps top out around the $10 welcome bonuses plus whatever offers you finish, and offers can take days to credit.
Need less? Here’s how to make $50 fast. Need more? The $200 fast plan is built around one weekend. If rent or a bill is due right now, read what to do when you need money now. Next step
Start with the sale. Snap photos of one thing worth $100 and list it before you do anything else, then check what’s paying right now while you wait.
