How to Make $500 Fast: What Works by Tomorrow, This Week or This Month

The short answer

Need $500 by tomorrow? Unless you can sell something worth $500, the realistic answer is a paycheck advance, and that’s borrowing, not earning.

Need it within a week? Amazon says most Flex drivers earn $18 to $25 an hour, so $500 is roughly 20 to 28 hours of driving. Within a month, you’ve got more options, like renting out a room or freelancing.

Need $500 fast? By tomorrow, it's a big sale or a paycheck advance. This week, about 20 to 28 hours of Amazon Flex. This month, a room on Airbnb or freelancing.

Most “make $500 fast” lists mix up two very different problems. One is wanting an extra $500 this month. The other is needing $500 by Thursday before something bad happens.

The answers aren’t the same, so this page is split by when you need the money. Start with your deadline and read down.

If you need $500 by tomorrow

Two honest options. Sell something, or get your own pay early.

Selling is the better one if you can. $500 is a used road bike, a sectional couch, a newer phone, a set of tools, or a few smaller things together. List it locally tonight, price it to move, and take cash or a payment app at pickup.

If there’s nothing to sell, look at an advance. It’s not free money and it’s not income. But for a one-time gap, it beats paying a late charge.

Current

Best for: a one-time gap before payday

What it is
A banking app (Current is a financial technology company, not a bank) with a Paycheck Advance feature.
What you do
Get your pay direct-deposited into Current. The app shows the amount you qualify for. You take the advance and it lands in your account.
How much it pays
Eligible users can get up to $1,000 before payday, with no credit check. You need at least one eligible payroll deposit of $200 or more a month into Current, and contractor pay can count if Current says it qualifies. It’s free if you can wait up to 3 days. Faster money costs an Instant Access Fee, which varies with the size of the advance. The app shows it before you confirm, and expedited money lands within an hour.
The catch
It’s paid back automatically from your next payroll deposit, and you can’t cancel once you confirm. PayPal, Venmo, Cash App and Zelle transfers don’t count as payroll, and neither do mobile check or cash deposits. How much you get depends on your deposit history and can change.

Worth it? Only if you already have steady pay going into Current and the $500 can’t wait. Then use the next two sections so next month looks different.

Check Current

If you need $500 this week

This is where real work comes in. A week is enough time for a couple of long delivery days, as long as you’re already approved or very close.

Amazon Flex is the one gig app that puts an hourly number on its own pay page, which makes the math easy.

Amazon Flex

Best for: drivers 21+ with a 4-door car

What it is
Delivering Amazon packages in your own car, in scheduled “blocks.”
What you do
Reserve delivery blocks up to a week ahead, or grab same-day offers, then deliver the route.
How much it pays
Amazon says most delivery partners earn $18 to $25 an hour, and its guaranteed contribution is at least $15 to $19 per scheduled hour depending on where you are. You keep 100% of tips where customers can tip. At $18 to $25, $500 is about 20 to 28 hours. You pick your payday (daily works). Flex Cashout is free to your bank, landing the same or next business day, or costs 50 cents for faster access.
The catch
The bar’s higher than food apps. You need to be 21, with a 4-door midsize sedan or bigger, your own insurance, and a clean enough record to pass the background check. Blocks can be limited where you live.

Worth it? Yes if you qualify. Three or four full days of blocks is a real shot at $500 in one week, and you can get paid daily.

Apply to Amazon Flex

Not 21, or no 4-door car? DoorDash and Uber Eats take younger drivers and even bikes in some cities, though they don’t post an hourly figure. Here are the best food delivery jobs side by side, and what Amazon Flex drivers say it’s really like.

If you need $500 this month

A month opens up the stuff that pays better per hour but takes a while to get rolling. Neither of these will save you this week. Both can be a $500 month, or more, once they’re set up.

Airbnb

Best for: a spare room or a place you leave often

What it is
Renting out a room or your whole place to travelers.
What you do
List your space, set your price and house rules, accept guests, host the stay.
How much it pays
You set the nightly price. Most hosts now pay a 15.5% service fee to Airbnb (some pay 14% to 16%). Airbnb releases your payout about 24 hours after the guest checks in, and then it depends on your method: Fast Pay and pay to card can land in 30 minutes or less where available, PayPal within one business day, a bank account in 3 to 5 business days.
The catch
Unverified new hosts get paid after checkout instead, and a payout under review can be held up to 45 days after check-in. Local rules on short-term rentals vary by city, so check yours first.

Worth it? Only if you’ve got real space to rent and your city allows it. It’s a slow start, then it can cover $500 in a few nights.

Fiverr

Best for: a skill people pay for online

What it is
A freelance marketplace where you sell fixed-price services (“Gigs”) to clients.
What you do
Set up your Gigs, take orders, deliver the work, collect reviews.
How much it pays
You get 80% of the client’s cleared payment, and tips go straight to you. Funds clear in 14 days before you can withdraw (sooner for Top Rated, Seller Plus and Fiverr Pro sellers). PayPal withdrawals take about 24 hours with no charge and a $1 minimum.
The catch
That 14-day wait means today’s order is cash in about two weeks. And nothing guarantees a brand-new seller an order this month.

Worth it? Skip it if you need $500 this week. Worth starting now if you can write, design, edit video or do anything else people hire for, since it can turn into steady money.

Sell your skills on Fiverr

What to skip when you’re desperate

When you need $500, game apps start looking tempting. Bigcash, for instance, says some offers pay up to $170. But the big ones mean playing a game for weeks, and rewards can be reversed if the advertiser flags the activity. KashKick holds game earnings for 1 to 31 days before they hit your balance.

Those apps are fine for extra cash. They’re not a $500 plan. And skip anything that asks you to pay up front to “unlock” earnings. Real gigs don’t.

Quick questions

How can I get $500 today?

Sell something worth $500 locally, or take a paycheck advance if you qualify. Current fronts eligible users up to $1,000 before payday when they get at least $200 a month in payroll deposits into Current. Faster delivery costs an Instant Access Fee.

Is a paycheck advance a loan?

Treat it like one. It’s money from your next paycheck, early, and it comes back out automatically when that paycheck lands. Use it once for a real gap, not every month.

How can I make $500 in a week without a car?

Delivery apps that take bikes or walkers (Uber Eats, and DoorDash in some cities), plus selling things locally. Shift apps like Instawork pay hourly too. Instawork says its US average is over $20 an hour, so $500 is about 25 hours of shifts.

Need less? Here’s how to make $400 fast. Need more? See $600 or $1,000 fast. For steady money after the emergency’s over, check what’s paying right now and the list of apps that pay you real money, or dig into our other side hustles.
