Are you supposed to tip those gig workers who work at apps like TaskRabbit? In this article, I'll take a closer look at if you tip on TaskRabbit and how this resource can help you tip on the TaskRabbit app or website.

Whether you're in the midst of a home improvement project or need help setting up furniture, hiring someone to help out is a smart move. When it comes to finding some help, TaskRabbit may be the app worth checking out.

TaskRabbit offers you help when you need it, at your fingertips. You can get help from thousands of trusted Taskers for everything from errands to contactless deliveries.

I recently signed up and searched for a Tasker to help me with some cleaning and furniture assembly. But, keep in mind that any service that provides convenience to you requires that someone perform that service. And that usually means that they should get a tip. Follow this simple guide to help you determine when and how much to tip your Tasker.

How to Use TaskRabbit?

TaskRabbit is an online marketplace for tasks and services. Think cleaning, shopping and delivery, handyman services, moving help, general help and summer tasks — these are a few of the categories that you can sell your services for by using this platform.

To get started, you must sign up for free and pick a task from a list of popular chores and submit your request. This lets the app instantly find Taskers in your area ready to help.

Then you'll get matched on a same-day appointment or a future time that suits your schedule. You can manage your booking directly from the app, chat with your Tasker, get accurate arrival times, and pay electronically when the task is complete.

Where is TaskRabbit Available?

TaskRabbit is available in 47 US cities, 4 UK cities, 1 Canadian city.

TaskRabbit Tipping Etiquette

Most people in the service industry rely on tips for the main portion of their income. In the service industries, hourly wages are often well below the minimum wage, with the expectation that providers will receive tips from customers to make up the difference.

So remember that the Tasker working with you is an independent contractor, but they are getting paid an hourly set rate. So Tasker personnel are not solely relying on the tips!

The average Tasker earns $110 a month, and that could be from a range of different jobs, including house cleaning, handyman work, moving services and more.

Could you live off $110 a month? Probably not, this is not livable income for almost anyone. Some people think that paying tips for delivery jobs and other service work is too expensive, with all the other added fees. But, it is important to remember that you are paying for a convenience service, and that does come with some cost.

Taskers are mostly underpaid, mobile workers with no guarantee of regular or consistent income. If they don't suck, it doesn't hurt to tip them.

Do You Tip on TaskRabbit

TaskRabbit's official website states that tipping is optional, but if you do choose to tip, your Tasker will receive 100 percent of the tip amount.

Here's our take on TaskRabbit tipping etiquette: If they do a good job tip your Tasker. If they do a terrible job or drag their feet, don’t tip them.

Everyone appreciates tips, but keep in mind that Taskers aren't waiting tables where tips are the primary source of income.

Taskers set their own rates so anything above that is recognition of a job well done.

How to Tip on TaskRabbit

Once your tasker submits their invoice, you'll be able to review and tip your tasker. Tipping is available for only 24 hours after you receive your invoice and you must review them first. There's no need for cash to change hands, as TaskRabbit is a cashless platform.

To tip on the TaskRabbit app:

  • Tap “Tasks” from the bottom navigation and find the task you want to submit a tip on.
  • Tap “Review and tip” as seen in the animation below.
  • Choose a number of stars to review your Tasker. You must complete this step before you're able to add a tip.
  • Tap “Submit.”
  • Tap the amount you would like to tip.
  • Tap “Submit.”

To tip your Tasker on the TaskRabbit website:

  • Log into your TaskRabbit account.
  • Click “My Tasks” from the top of the page, where your Current tasks should be listed.
  • Click “Review and Tip” on the Task you wish to submit a tip on.
  • Rate your tasker and click “Submit.” This step needs to be completed if you wish to tip your Tasker.
  • Select the amount you would like to tip and click “Submit.

Remember—tipping is optional. Taskers receive 100% of their tips in addition to their hourly rate.

How Much to Tip on TaskRabbit

If you plan on tipping your Tasker, you should tip at least 10% and up to 25% for excellent service.

Consider your Tasker someone providing a service like any other gig worker. You are probably tipping restaurant servers, your hairdresser, your rideshare driver, etc. This is no different.

Plan on tipping your Shipt shopper around 10% for good service, and plan to bump that up a bit for exceptional service, especially larger tasks, or having to drive a longer distance to complete the task.

Your Tasker is spending time on your chores. And, don’t forget the wear and tear that comes with Taskers using their own vehicle for their job.

This all adds up, and should be taken into consideration when customers think about how much to tip on TaskRabbit. Without getting tips, Taskers are mostly underpaid, mobile workers with no guarantee of regular or consistent income. If they don't suck, it doesn't hurt to throw them money.

Perfect Your TaskRabbit Tipping

Figuring out your TaskRabbit Tasker's pay model in the gig economy is straightforward. Tipping your Tasker is easy, and an important part of the responsibility of the customer for excellent service. Any time you are receiving a convenience service, it should not be thought of as “free.”

TaskRabbit is here for the long haul, so, as a customer, understand how it works and how important it is to tip your Tasker appropriately so that you can continue to enjoy getting more done in less time.
